Walailak University and Bank of Thailand Sign MOU to Promote Financial Literacy and Enhance Financial Well-being in Southern Thailand

The School of Accountancy and Finance, Walailak University, has joined efforts to advance academic collaboration between Walailak University and the Bank of Thailand, Southern Region Office, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on academic cooperation and financial literacy promotion. The collaboration aims to strengthen financial knowledge and skills, build financial resilience, and enhance the financial well-being of youth, educators, and communities across Southern Thailand.

On 26 May 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Charan Boonkan, Vice President for Academic Affairs in Humanities and Social Sciences, Walailak University, and Mr. Tadlap Phaoluangthong, Senior Director of the Bank of Thailand, Southern Region Office, signed the MOU at Mokhalan Meeting Room, Professor Dr. Wichit Srisa-an Building, Walailak University. Executives from both organizations attended the ceremony as witnesses.

The collaboration establishes a framework for transferring sound financial knowledge, skills, and values covering key aspects of everyday financial life, including financial planning, saving, debt management, appropriate investment, and protection against financial fraud and scams. These efforts are intended to help individuals manage their finances more effectively and achieve sustainable financial well-being in the long term.

As an academic unit with expertise in accounting, finance, economics, and business, the School of Accountancy and Finance, Walailak University, places strong emphasis on promoting financial literacy among university students, youth, and local communities. This partnership provides an important opportunity to connect academic knowledge with practical expertise from a leading financial institution, supporting the development of learning materials, academic activities, and financial literacy initiatives that respond to the needs of Thai society in the digital era.

Walailak University plans to advance the collaboration by developing modern curricula and learning materials, beginning with a pilot initiative at the Walailak University Demonstration School. The initiative aims to cultivate financial discipline and essential financial skills from an early age before expanding to other Schools within the University and surrounding communities. Interdisciplinary integration will also be encouraged to ensure that financial literacy promotion creates tangible and sustainable outcomes.

The partnership between Walailak University and the Bank of Thailand, Southern Region Office, marks another important step in equipping youth, educators, and communities in Southern Thailand with essential financial knowledge and skills. The collaboration is expected to contribute to reducing financial risks, strengthening financial discipline, and improving the long-term financial well-being of Thai society.
